Thank you for visiting ECBC! We are glad you can join us.
I grew up and still am in a loving family. In my family there is my mom, my dad and my 2 brothers, Riyandi and Diondi. I was born in Jakarta, Indonesia were we lived until the 3-day riot 7 years ago (houses were burned, there was looting and many other violent acts). We moved to Singapore to escape all the violence with only the essentials and little money. My dad wanted us to move to Singapore so we would be safe. We weren’t used to the life there and, I confess, we cried a lot. It was a hard time for all of us. My dad had to look for a new job, but my dad with his strong faith in God always comforted us by saying, “God is going to help us through this difficult time. Believe in Him.” Even though I was still very young, I remember this clearly because it had moved me.
After living in Singapore for 2 years, we migrated to Canada. One day, dad brought us to ECBC for Sunday worship. I attended Church since I was very young and heard about Jesus Christ. One evening, some people from church came to our home to give us a house blessing, and my mom was sharing about why we came to Canada. During that time I reflected on our past and I knew for certain that God always blessed us and kept us safe even though times were hard. Then I felt something inside of me urging me to ask God to come into my life. After they left, I talked to my mom and asked her to pray for me. We asked Jesus to come into my life and to have a relationship with me.
After asking Jesus to come into my heart, a lot of things changed. I know I can talk to God about anything: school, problems and anything else I want to talk about. I get better grades; I understand things more. I know if I trust in Him, He will keep me from doing things that are unpleasant to Him, just like the verse Proverbs 3: 5-6 says, "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him and He will make your paths straight." There are tons of benefits of being God’s child. But the one I value most is the assurance of having eternal life in Jesus Christ.
