Richard and Ling Schwarz

The Schwarz are a family in Nepal whom we, at ECBC, support in prayer and finance. They have three children - Jonathan, Daniel and Christina. Ling attended ECBC from her arrival in Vancouver in 1981 until she left in 1991. Richard is a surgeon doing mostly plastic and reconstructive surgery. He does a lot of work with cleft lips and palates, leprosy surgery, and burns. He is also very involved in doing research as well as training Nepali surgeons.

Ling, besides raising three children, has been involved in income generation projects for women, particularly for those who are widowed or abandoned without other means of support. Both are actively involved in their local "community." They are in a house fellowship group, as well as teaching Sunday School.

Their work is very much a team effort now. Professionally, Richard works with speech therapist, physiotherapist, occupational therapists, prosthetics, and his surgical colleagues to get the best result for the patients. Likewise, they work closely with their friends in the "community" who help with social care and demonstrate the love of God at the hospital, prison, and student ministries.
