Thank you for visiting ECBC! We are glad you can join us.
On behalf of the Youth Ministries at the Evangelical Chinese Bible Church, we want to take this opportunity to thank you for your kind and generous support of our 2004 summer missions project, Gleanings For The Hungry.
As you may know, Gleanings For The Hungry is a ministry of Youth With A Mission (YWAM) located in Sultana, California. Their mission is to help feed the hungry in this world both spiritually and physically.

They do this by producing dried fruits and vegetable soup mixes for distribution to various Christian mission organizations throughout the world who are in direct contact with those who are in need.
These Christian organizations use the food to feed the physical needs but more importantly, it creates an opportunity to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
To give you an idea of what takes place at Gleanings, this year's fresh fruit processing system operated for 11? weeks this summer and processed over 6.7 million pounds of fruit, which gave rise to 233 tons of dried fruit. If you can assume 3 peaches or nectarines to the pound, then over 20,000,000 peaches and nectarines were processed this season. (During the week we served at Gleanings, we helped produce 40,400 pound or 20.2 tons of dried fruits.)
There are many exciting things happening at Gleanings. You may know that over 40% of the world's production of raisins happens in the state of California. They have a California Raisin Board which helps to oversee this industry. This Raisin Board has approved a donation of 2000 tons of 4,000,000 pounds of raisin to Gleanings for the distribution to the hungry in the world. We thank God for His wonderful and abundant provisions!
We had asked the young people to summarize their thoughts on the mission trip and below is what one of them wrote:
Fulfilling. Hard work. Fun. Impressive. Inspiring. These are just some of the few words that first come to mind when I think about our trip to Gleanings. During our missions trip to Gleanings, the first thought I had while going there was how incredibly blessed I was to be there. The ability to follow God's will with other brothers and sisters in Christ is truly indescribable. I felt so fortunate to have your support both financially and prayerfully. Having this tremendous support made the work there purposeful as well as motivational in remembering that this is all for God's kingdom and glory. I just wanted to say a huge thank you for all of your support, generosity, and thoughtfulness in helping fund our trip. Luke 10 reminds us that the harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few. I pray that we can continue to support one another and respond to God's harvest with praise.
I wrote a letter to the Gleanings team summarizing my thoughts one morning:
Well, it's 5.30 a.m. on Friday morning here in Sultana, California, our 6th day here.
I'm watching the sun as it starts to rise over the mountain tops and it's such a beautiful sight. It reminds me of the awesome power of God and of the fact that He made the heaven and earth and all that is in it. God woke me up this morning and brought to mind a scripture verse (Psalm 84:10), "Better is one day in Your courts than a thousand elsewhere; I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of the wicked." You know that life is full of choices. Sometimes we choose well, and sometimes not. For each of us, we chose to come on this mission trip. We gave up part of our summer vacation to do something which we thought was meaningful and would have an impact on the lives of others for eternity sake. Though my body right now is aching in many places, I love it because I know God has called each one of us here to do this work at Gleanings For The Hungry and we have been obedient to His call. I have to say again, how impressed I am with all your efforts put forth these past few days. You have grasped the vision of God's purpose for you being here and have labored well. To think that the things done here will ultimately culminate into an opportunity to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ with those who have both a physical need and, more importantly, a spiritual need. This is a humbling thought. My prayer for you all is that by you being here this week, your life has been permanently affected by what God has shown us and that our walk with Him is close now than when we first arrived.
Thank you again for all your support.
In His service and for His glory,
ECBC Gleanings for the Hungry Mission Team
